Donnel has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in Plant Breeding and Genetics from the University of Southern Mindanao, where he graduated as Magna cum laude. He also has a Master of Public Administration from Cor Jesu College, and is currently pursuing a Ph. D. in Rural Development at the University of Southern Mindanao.

Most recently, he worked as the Project Coordinator and Country Agronomist at World Coffee Research. Donnel set up both on-farm technology trials and international variety trials to test a number of local and international arabica coffee varieties in different agro-climatic conditions across the country, furthering coffee research and development (R & D) in the Philippines. Donnel worked as a Technical Advisory and Marketing Supervisor of the Agriculture Food and Life Department at SGS Philippines,
Inc. before joining World Coffee Research.

He also spent six years in Nestle Philippines as a Coffee Agronomist, providing technical assistance and technology transfer to coffee farmers.

Currently, Donnel work with Corporate Affairs as Government and Industry Affairs Executive. In particular, he is responsible for the development and implementation of critical and innovative projects and support programs for smallholder and individual farmers and green coffee suppliers that will serve as inclusive
business models, financial inclusion models, and ensure gaps in the agriculture value chain that can be addressed by the Nescafe
Plan. He is also the Regenerative Agriculture Ambassador of Nestle.
